St. Pauli matchday, fan first

St. Pauli is the away day every football fan wants. The Millerntor sits a five-minute walk off the Reeperbahn, the skull and crossbones is everywhere, and the Jolly Roger across the road is run by fans for fans. The catch is getting in: the ground holds 29,546 and sells out, so tickets are the hard part, not the beer. Eat and drink in St. Pauli before kick-off, take the U-Bahn to St. Pauli or Feldstraße, and save the late one for the Kiez afterwards. The football is 2. Bundesliga for 2026/27 after relegation on the final day in May 2026. Turn up for the atmosphere, the politics and the noise.

Club facts and honours

FC St. Pauli was founded on 15 May 1910 in the harbour district of Hamburg. The club's identity is bound up with its working-class, dockside neighbourhood and the Reeperbahn next door. In the late 1980s fans adopted the skull-and-crossbones Jolly Roger as a terrace symbol; the club bought the rights to the graphic in 1999. At its 1991 annual general meeting the membership voted to ban neo-Nazi displays from the ground and make anti-fascism club policy, a stance the club still states in its own statutes and communications.

Use FC St. Pauli's official ticket channels only. The Millerntor holds 29,546 and is regularly sold out, so home tickets are scarce and routinely go to members and season-ticket holders first. Do not promise availability, and do not promote resale platforms — unofficial resale is a validity and price risk. Buy through the club's official ticket shop and current fixture pages. Home and away allocations vary by match; check the official ticket page for the specific fixture and any membership or pre-sale window before travelling.

Food, drink and nights out

Option rows, not a single winner — different lanes for different fans.

near ground drink · home fan · fan owned

Jolly Roger

walkable to stadium · home · budget

The St. Pauli fan pub, directly across the road from the Millerntor on Budapester Straße. Supporter-owned and run as a non-profit, with proceeds going into supporters' projects.

Cold beer, punk soundtrack, stickers and memorabilia everywhere. Tourism and review sources say the doors open about two hours before kick-off on matchdays and it gets packed before and after.

keep with caveat: Strong, well-sourced home-fan ritual venue opposite the ground (tourism authority plus independent review coverage). It is a fan bar, not a neutral or guaranteed away-safe venue.

near ground food

Ashoka

walkable to stadium · neutral · mid range

Curry house over the road from the Millerntor — a practical sit-down feed near the ground before kick-off.

Hamburg tourism's St. Pauli walkthrough names Ashoka as being across from the stadium with a hot, well-rated curry.

keep with caveat: Single tourism-authority source naming it near the ground; useful near-ground food row but wants a second independent source and a current-hours check before it is a headline pick.

ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten

harbour walk · neutral · mid range

Microbrewery and Neapolitan-style pizza place at St. Pauli Fischmarkt, down by the harbour and a walk from the ground — good for a proper feed and a home-brewed beer.

Home-brewed beer plus wood-fired pizza baked in a hand-built Naples oven; in St. Pauli since 2017 at St. Pauli Fischmarkt 28-32.

keep: Own site plus tourism authority plus independent review coverage support the craft-beer-and-pizza fit; closer to the harbour than the ground, so it is a pre-match feed rather than a doorstep bar.

city centre food

Krug

reeperbahn area · neutral · mid range

Sit-down restaurant on Paul-Roosen-Straße in the Reeperbahn orbit for fans who want a meal before walking up to the Millerntor.

Named by Hamburg tourism as a good restaurant around the Reeperbahn (Paul-Roosen-Straße 35).

keep with caveat: Single tourism-authority source; reasonable Reeperbahn-area food row but wants a current menu/hours check and a second source before it leads.

Sources: One day in St. Pauli, Harbour & Reeperbahn — Hamburg-Travel

city centre drink · night out

Standard

reeperbahn area · neutral · mid range

Aperitivo bar on Große Freiheit with a big Negroni list — a pre- or post-match drink in the Reeperbahn streets.

Hamburg tourism describes it as an aperitivo bar with a large Negroni selection (Große Freiheit 9).

keep with caveat: Single tourism-authority source naming it; fine Reeperbahn drinks row but needs a current-hours check and a second source before it leads.

Sources: One day in St. Pauli, Harbour & Reeperbahn — Hamburg-Travel

night out · city centre drink

clockers Bar

reeperbahn area · neutral · mid range

St. Pauli cocktail and gin bar on Paul-Roosen-Straße, open since 2014, pouring its own house clockers GIN — a later-night option after the football.

Hamburg tourism lists it as a gin-and-events bar in the middle of St. Pauli making its own gin and herbal liqueur.

keep with caveat: Tourism-authority source; good night-out drinks row but a doors/age/entry check and a second source are wanted before it leads.

Astra St. Pauli Brauerei

reeperbahn area · neutral · mid range

Named brewery-bar in the St. Pauli/Reeperbahn orbit for fans making a night of it after the Millerntor.

Brewery/bar food and Astra beer in the St. Pauli nightlife area.

keep with caveat: Direct Astra brewery site confirms the venue; TripAdvisor and Hamburg tourism provide independent/nightlife context. Good named Reeperbahn-area option, with fixture-safety caveat.

Millerntor concourse food and drink

at stadium · neutral · unknown

Practical fallback food and drink inside the ground if you're short on time.

Visitor reviews confirm food and drink on the Millerntor concourses, but exact stalls and policy vary by matchday.

keep with caveat: Use as a contingency/practical in-ground option, not a food-quality pick. Stalls and prices are non-stable.

Itineraries

Home fan: Kiez to the Millerntor

  1. Eat early in St. Pauli — ÜberQuell by the Fischmarkt for pizza and a home-brewed beer, or Ashoka near the ground for a curry.
  2. Take the U3 to St. Pauli or Feldstraße, or walk up from the Reeperbahn.
  3. Drink at the Jolly Roger opposite the ground (doors open about two hours before kick-off, gets packed).
  4. Go in early for the walk-out and the noise.

Keep pub language home-fan only. Use official transport timings for the fixture.

Away fan: practical and low-risk

  1. Sort your ticket through your own club's away-ticket route and St. Pauli's official ticket page for the fixture.
  2. Eat and drink in the wider St. Pauli/Reeperbahn area before heading to the ground rather than assuming pubs by the away turnstiles.
  3. Use the U3 (St. Pauli or Feldstraße) and follow official away-supporter guidance for the specific match.
  4. Check the official ticket and away guidance for fixture-specific restrictions before travelling.

Safety-sensitive. Do not publish near-ground pub recommendations for away fans without current official support. Hold the away-stand detail until an official away source is captured.

Food and beer day around St. Pauli

  1. Start at ÜberQuell at the Fischmarkt for wood-fired pizza and brewery beer.
  2. Or pick a Reeperbahn-area table — Krug on Paul-Roosen-Straße for a meal, Standard on Große Freiheit for a Negroni.
  3. Leave time for the short U-Bahn ride or walk to the Millerntor; use the concourse only as a fallback feed.

Venue hours and bookings still need a final current check.

Football plus a St. Pauli night out

  1. Base yourself in the district — Premier Inn Millerntor or Superbude for budget, EAST or ARCOTEL Onyx near the Reeperbahn for something smarter, Empire Riverside for harbour views.
  2. Drink the streets after the match — Standard, clockers and the Reeperbahn bars within a few minutes' walk.
  3. Use the U-Bahn or taxis for late-night movement.

Needs current opening-hours and price check before production.

Non-matchday St. Pauli day

  1. Book the official MILLERNTOUR stadium tour for the football context and the club museum.
  2. Add the harbour and Landungsbrücken/Fischmarkt down by the water for a family walk.
  3. Eat at ÜberQuell or grab something casual rather than committing to the late-night Reeperbahn scene.

Check tour times and venue hours. The Reeperbahn is an adult night-out district at night; keep the family route to daytime harbour/tour content.

QA holds before publishing

  • Division verified June 2026: St. Pauli were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga on the final matchday, 16 May 2026 (18th, 26 pts, after a 3-1 home loss to Wolfsburg). Re-check division each season.
  • Coaching change verified June 2026: Alexander Blessin and St. Pauli parted ways after relegation; Marcel Rapp (ex-Holstein Kiel) was appointed head coach in June 2026. Treat as a dated news fact; do not name a current manager in evergreen page copy.
  • Stadium: current capacity 29,546; expansion to ~40,000-50,000 (or a new venue) is proposal-stage only and must be date-labelled. The 2025 fan-cooperative majority stake in the Millerntor is documented by the club.
  • Reference the players' walk-out tradition only — NEVER name a walk-out song or artist. No tune/composer/source-work leakage anywhere.
  • Honours are second-tier/regional only; keep champions separate from promotions and verify years.
  • Away-fan content is safety-critical: official away-supporter guidance only; the away-stand detail is held until an official away source is captured.
  • Recommendation gate: venue/hotel rows are option sets by intent/area/budget, never a single 'best'; rows stay qa_hold unless independently supported.
  • Media gate: image rows are CC BY-SA 3.0 with full attribution captured; video rows are lead_only with no embedding, cropping, transcribing or stills.
  • Volatile facts (ticket availability, opening hours, prices, menus) framed as examples, never guarantees; re-check before publishing.
  • Anti-discrimination/club-politics copy is taken factually from St. Pauli's own statements; not partisan, not caricatured.
  • No false club affiliation; no claim that FanChants records inside stadiums (all songs are sent in by fans); no 100%-clearance language; swears masked f*ck-style; never copy Wikipedia — always rewrite.
