Manchester City matchday, fan first

The Etihad is east Manchester, not the city centre — plan your pre-match accordingly. Home fans have the Etihad Campus fan zone and a clutch of home-only pubs on Ashton New Road and Grey Mare Lane. Away fans have the South Stand and a dedicated fan zone outside the East Stand; the surrounding pubs are home territory, so city-centre food and drink before the tram is the practical call. City Square (the stadium fan zone) and the new Pep Guardiola Stand expansion are the current stadium stories. The Northern Quarter and Ancoats — twenty minutes by tram from the ground — give the best independent food and a proper night out. Hotels near the Etihad are budget; city-centre hotels let you combine the game with the rest of Manchester.

Club facts and honours

Manchester City trace their roots to St Mark's West Gorton in 1880. The club has spent its entire Premier League era at what is now the Etihad Stadium and entered its most dominant period under Pep Guardiola from 2016 to 2026, winning 20 major trophies in a decade. The 2025-26 season was Guardiola's last: City finished second in the Premier League (Arsenal won the title with 85 points, City second with 78 — 7 points behind) but won both domestic cups to complete a domestic cup double.

To be eligible, members must have purchased tickets for 35 individual home men's matches across the three previous seasons (2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26). Season Ticket Members can add up to 18 people to their Friends and Family list. Cityzens Membership is lighter on ticketing and stronger on retail and content perks. Stadium food and drink inside the ground. Asahi is the official beer partner. Food vans line the exterior on matchdays. Standard stadium options — useful as a backup, not as the headline recommendation.

keep with caveat: Official matchday page confirms food and drink outlets; external guide confirms food-van presence outside. Keep as a practical fallback only, not a food-quality recommendation.

Itineraries

Home fan: Etihad Campus matchday build-up

  1. Arrive at Manchester Piccadilly by train or into the city centre.
  2. Eat in Ancoats or the Northern Quarter before heading to the ground — far better choice than the area immediately outside the stadium.
  3. Take the Metrolink Blue line from Piccadilly to Etihad Campus (8 minutes, every 6 minutes on matchdays).
  4. Use City Square fan zone (East Stand) for the pre-match build-up, or head to Mary D's on Grey Mare Lane if you want a proper pub atmosphere.
  5. Enter via your designated stand — turnstiles usually open 2 hours before kick-off.

City Square opening times are fixture-dependent. Re-check each season.

Away fan: safe and practical route

  1. Eat and drink in Manchester city centre or the Northern Quarter before travelling — away-fan pub options near the Etihad are severely limited.
  2. Take the Metrolink Blue line from Piccadilly to Etihad Campus (8 minutes). Turnstiles L1-L3 for the South Stand.
  3. Near the ground, use the official away fan zone rather than attempting home-fan pubs.
  4. Check the official Manchester City away fan guide at mancity.com/away-fan-guide for the latest restrictions and allocation details before each fixture.

Safety-sensitive. Re-check official away guide before each season and any high-profile fixture.

Football plus Ancoats food and night out

  1. Check into a city-centre hotel — Leonardo on Great Ancoats Street puts you in the food district.
  2. Eat in Ancoats or the Northern Quarter before the match: Rudy's for groups and pizza, Erst for small plates and wine, Canto for tapas, or Mackie Mayor when the group wants a food hall.
  3. Metrolink to the Etihad (8 minutes from Piccadilly).
  4. After the match, return to Ancoats or the Northern Quarter by tram or taxi for drinks or a late meal.

Venue hours and booking need current check before publishing.

Matchday stadium tour add-on

  1. Book a Manchester City Matchday Tour — includes home dressing room, dugouts and press conference room, plus a pitch-side walk for ticket holders.
  2. Official tours are available through mancity.com/tours/matchday-tours.
  3. Combine with the Club shop or the planned City museum (opening later in 2026 as part of the campus expansion — check current status).
  4. Head to Ancoats or city centre for food before or after.

Matchday tour availability and campus museum opening are fixture/date dependent. Re-check official tour page before promoting.
