FC Zürich matchday, fan first

This page covers the full fan journey: who FC Zürich are and what they have won, how to get tickets through the official portal, Letzigrund logistics (tram 2 from Paradeplatz, 25,000-seat shared ground), and where to eat and drink before and after a match. Home fans have options along Badenerstrasse on the doorstep of the stadium; anyone staying overnight or looking for a real night out has better choice in Zürich-West (Kreis 5), Langstrasse, or the old town. Hotels cluster around Altstetten for stadium convenience or city-centre for restaurants and transport.

Club facts and honours

FC Zürich was founded on 1 August 1896 by members of the city clubs FC Turicum and FC Excelsior. Their first game — a 3–3 draw with St. Gallen on 30 August 1896 at Hardau — predated the Swiss league by years. Joan Gamper, who later co-founded FC Barcelona, was an early honorary member and captain. The club won their first Swiss championship in 1901–02. Their peak era came under the influence of Köbi Kuhn, who spent 16 years as a player and captained six title wins in the 1960s and 1970s. FCZ are the only Swiss club to have reached the European Cup semi-finals more than once: 1963–64 (beaten by Real Madrid) and 1976–77 (beaten by Liverpool). Their most recent league title came in 2021–22. The stadium is shared with city rivals Grasshopper Club Zürich and also hosts Weltklasse Zürich, one of the Diamond League's marquee athletics meets.

Food, drink and nights out

Option rows, not a single winner — different lanes for different fans.

near ground · pre match

Restaurant Letzigrund

near ground · home leaning · mid

Traditional Swiss-Italian restaurant directly on Badenerstrasse a few doors from the stadium. The site describes it as a popular meeting point for sports fans before and after events at Letzigrund. Under new management from May 2026; hours need current check.

keep with caveat: The restaurant's own site confirms the address beside Letzigrund and positions it as a meeting point around stadium events. Because management changed in May 2026, use it as a practical near-ground option rather than a best-restaurant claim.

at stadium · weekday lunch

Restaurant Oval

at stadium · neutral · mid

Restaurant inside Stadion Letzigrund overlooking the pitch. Its own site frames it as a weekday lunch and event space rather than a guaranteed public matchday option.

keep with caveat: The official Restaurant Oval site confirms the stadium location and weekday lunch service. It posts closure periods and is not a normal walk-up football pub.

near ground · weekday only

Turbinenbräu

near ground · neutral · mid

Zürich's own brewhouse with outdoor Biergarten for up to 100. Open Mon–Fri lunch and evenings. Closed Saturday and Sunday in standard trading, so only relevant for midweek home fixtures.

keep with caveat: Restaurant's own site confirms location, hours and beer garden. Weekday-only caveat is the key constraint.

city centre food · night out

Zeughauskeller

city centre · neutral · mid

Traditional Swiss beer hall in a 15th-century armory near Paradeplatz. Open daily 11:30–23:00. Pre-match option for fans who start in the city centre before taking tram 2 to the ground.

keep with caveat: Zürich Tourism page and multiple independent review sources confirm it is a long-running, well-regarded traditional Swiss venue near Paradeplatz.

Sources: Zeughauskeller — Zürich Tourism listing, Zeughauskeller — Yelp listing (address and hours confirmation)

city centre food · night out

Zum Königstuhl

old town niederdorf · neutral · mid high

Traditional Swiss restaurant in Niederdorf old town. Open daily 11:30–23:30 with kitchen until 22:00. A pre-match option for fans starting the day in the Altstadt.

keep with caveat: Restaurant's own site confirms hours and Swiss-fondue specialism. Zürich old town location is tourist-popular so prices lean higher.

night out · zürich west

Frau Gerold's Garten

zürich west kreis5 · neutral · mid

Open-air bar, restaurant and urban-garden venue in Zürich-West (Kreis 5), around 15 minutes by tram from Letzigrund. Primarily an evening and summer-afternoon option.

keep with caveat: The venue's own site confirms the 2026 summer season dates, and Zürich Tourism backs it as a Zürich-West open-air food and drink venue. It remains seasonal, so do not use it without the current season caveat.

night out · zürich west

CLOUDS Bar & Bistro

zürich west kreis5 · neutral · high

Post-match or non-matchday Zürich-West option at Prime Tower near Hardbrücke, better suited to a planned night out than a quick pre-match pint.

zürich west kreis5 · neutral · mid

Zürich-West / Hardbrücke bar and restaurant area

zürich west kreis5 · neutral · mid

Renovated industrial district around Hardbrücke and Escher-Wyss-Platz with multiple bars, restaurants and clubs. Roughly 15 minutes from Letzigrund by tram. Best for evening visits — ibis City West hotel cluster is nearby.

langstrasse kreis4 · neutral · low mid

Langstrasse runs from near Hardbrücke south past the Letzigrund area and is around a 20-minute walk from the stadium. Mixed bars, cheap eats and street food. Not a dedicated fan zone.
