Everton matchday, fan first

Everton moved from Goodison Park — home for 133 years — to Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock on Liverpool's northern waterfront for the 2025-26 season. The matchday world has changed completely: transport means Sandhills on the Merseyrail Northern Line, waterfront walks, and bus connections rather than the Walton backstreets. Food and nightlife are a short trip into the city centre — Bold Street, the Baltic Triangle, or the Albert Dock — because the immediate dock area is still emerging. Goodison lives on as the home of Everton Women, the largest dedicated women's football stadium in the UK. This guide covers the new-stadium matchday first, city-centre options for food and hotels, and the Goodison heritage where it matters.

Itineraries

New-stadium matchday: transport first

  1. Check official tickets and travel guidance on evertonfc.com and hilldickinsonstadium.com before travelling.
  2. From Liverpool city centre: take the Merseyrail Northern Line to Sandhills (4 trains per hour off-peak, more on matchdays — confirm with Merseyrail).
  3. From Sandhills, follow stadium wayfinding to Bramley-Moore Dock. The walk is roughly 10-15 minutes along the waterfront corridor.
  4. Alternatively, bus services run from the city centre to the waterfront area — check Merseytravel for current matchday routes.
  5. Arrive early: the new stadium is still settling its crowd flow and entry queues.

Transport timings from official sources; re-check before each season for any service changes.

Food-first Liverpool matchday

  1. Base yourself in the city centre before the match — Bold Street or Albert Dock give the most choice.
  2. Bold Street options: Mowgli for Indian street food, Maray for Middle Eastern and cocktails.
  3. Albert Dock option: Maray's dockside site at Britannia Pavilion is on the waterfront route north.
  4. Leave enough time for Merseyrail to Sandhills plus the 10-15 minute walk to the ground.
  5. In-stadium food is available but frame it as a fallback rather than the main plan.

Venue opening hours and matchday capacity need current check before publishing.

Away fan: safe and practical

  1. Eat and drink in the city centre before travelling — away fans are safer in the centre than near the ground in the pre-match window.
  2. Use official Everton away fan guidance for the specific fixture — segregation, entry routes and any pub restrictions near the ground.
  3. Travel to Sandhills on Merseyrail and follow official away fan wayfinding.
  4. In-stadium food and drink is the safest option near the ground; do not assume pre-match pubs near the stadium are away-safe without checking official guidance.

Away fan safety guidance is fixture-specific and safety-critical. Always link to official Everton away guidance.

Football plus a Liverpool night out

  1. Book a city-centre hotel if a night out matters more than being near the ground — options include the Halyard, The Resident, or the School Lane Hotel area.
  2. After the match, return to the city centre and head to Bold Street, Ropewalks or the Baltic Triangle depending on the mood.
  3. The Baltic Triangle has independent bars, live music and later hours for those staying over.
  4. Use taxis or Merseyrail for evening travel rather than walking from the waterfront at night.

Needs current venue opening and event check before producing specific bar recommendations.

Heritage day: Goodison and the new ground

  1. Start with a walk past Goodison Park in Walton — now Everton Women's home and the largest dedicated women's football stadium in the UK (check Everton Women fixture schedule for matchday access).
  2. Head to the city centre for food before the match.
  3. Travel to Hill Dickinson Stadium via Sandhills for the matchday experience at the new ground.
  4. Add the Albert Dock or waterfront for post-match if time allows.

Goodison matchday access for visitors depends on Everton Women fixture schedule; check before building this itinerary into public copy.
