Coventry City matchday, fan first

This page covers the whole fan journey for Coventry City: who the Sky Blues are, what they have won, how tickets work for their return to the Premier League, where fans sit at the CBS Arena, how to get there, and what to do in Coventry before and after the match. The CBS Arena sits in Longford — roughly three miles north of the city centre — so the matchday shape is different from most clubs: city-centre food and drink first (Fargo Village, Spon Street, the Cathedral Quarter), then transport to the ground. The arena has its own rail station (Coventry Arena) as well as a dedicated matchday shuttle, making it reachable without a car. Home fans have the Sky Blue Tavern near the city-centre end of the journey and the arena fan zone; away fans have no dedicated local pub near the ground and should use the official away fans guide for each fixture.

Indian street food and pub classics, run in collaboration with Dhillon's Brewery.

keep with caveat: Strong home-fan option near the city-centre station, with multiple independent and official sources confirming its matchday role. Not near the CBS Arena — fans need to head to the ground afterwards.

Itineraries

Home fan: city-centre to CBS Arena ritual

  1. Arrive at Coventry city-centre rail station.
  2. Walk five minutes to the Sky Blue Tavern (Hertford Place) for a pre-match drink or food.
  3. Head back to the station to catch the matchday shuttle or take a direct train to Coventry Arena station.
  4. Walk from the station into the CBS Arena complex — short walk from the platform.
  5. Go inside early for the warm-up and stadium atmosphere.

Shuttle and train timings must be checked against official sources for each fixture. Sky Blue Tavern is a home-fan venue — do not use for away fans.

Away fan: practical and low-risk

  1. Eat and drink in the city centre before travelling to the ground — city-centre pubs are the practical option given no designated away pub near the CBS Arena.
  2. Use the official matchday shuttle from the city-centre rail station, or take a direct train to Coventry Arena station.
  3. The 2025-26 away guide confirmed there is no designated away fans pub near the CBS Arena — check the current season's official away guide before planning.
  4. Away fans are allocated the South Stand (blocks 6-9 in 2025-26); confirm allocation with your club's ticketing office.

Safety-sensitive. Do not publish near-ground pub recommendations for away fans without current official support from the away guide.

Food-first Coventry matchday

  1. Allow time in the city centre before heading to the ground — the CBS Arena is three miles from the centre.
  2. For independent food and drink: Fargo Village (craft beer, street food, Caribbean, noodles) is a strong pre-match base if arriving well before kick-off.
  3. For a historic pub feel: Spon Street area with the Green Dragon is an alternative character option.
  4. Head to the ground via the matchday shuttle or Coventry Arena direct train — leave enough time.
  5. Use Arena Park Shopping Centre or CBS Arena concourses as the fallback if short on time.

Venue hours and current trader lists need re-checking. Fargo Village is around 1.5 miles from Coventry city-centre rail station — not a quick detour for fans tight on time.

Football plus a Coventry night out

  1. Book a city-centre hotel if the evening matters: the Cathedral Quarter area has bars and restaurants in a compact cluster.
  2. The Two-Tone music heritage — The Specials, The Selecter — was born in Coventry and the city's independent music and arts scene is centred on venues around the city centre and Fargo Village.
  3. Use taxis or public transport for movement after the match rather than walking the three miles from the CBS Arena.

Current opening hours, event calendars and specific venue recommendations need checking before production.

Family and tourist Coventry day

  1. Coventry Cathedral (the ruins alongside the new cathedral) is a short walk from the city centre — a striking pre-match or post-match visit.
  2. The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is in the Cathedral Quarter and is free to enter.
  3. Fargo Village suits families for casual street food before travelling to the ground.
  4. The CBS Arena Arena Park Shopping Centre is practical for families arriving by shuttle with younger children — standard retail park catering.

Check attraction opening times and family ticket policies. Match-day timing will determine feasibility.
