Celtic matchday, fan first

This page covers the full Celtic matchday journey: who they are, what they have won, how to get to Celtic Park from the city centre, what the stands look like, and what to do in Glasgow before and after the game. Home fans heading to Parkhead for the build-up stick to the Gallowgate pubs on London Road; fans who want food choice and a night out start in the city centre first. Away fans follow official away guidance and use city-centre options rather than near-ground pubs.

Club facts and honours

Celtic was founded in Glasgow on 6 November 1887. The club became the first British side to win the European Cup in 1967, when Jock Stein's side defeated Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon. Celtic have won 56 Scottish league titles, including the nine-in-a-row run Stein's teams set between 1966 and 1974. Their 56th title came in 2025-26.

Itineraries

Home fan: Gallowgate ritual matchday

  1. Take the Argyle Line from Glasgow Central Low Level to Dalmarnock station — about 10 minutes.
  2. Walk the Gallowgate — the traditional pre-match route past Bar 67 and The Hoops Bar on London Road.
  3. Enter Celtic Park from London Road; the Main Stand entrance faces the street.
  4. Get inside early to hear the build-up before kick-off in Scotland's largest football stadium.

Home fans only route. Gallowgate pubs are home-fan territory; do not recommend to away supporters.

Away fan: city-first, safe and practical

  1. Eat and drink in the city centre — the Counting House at George Square (2 St Vincent Place) is a standard neutral pre-match option before heading to the station.
  2. Take the Argyle Line train from Glasgow Central Low Level to Dalmarnock. Journey is around 10 minutes.
  3. Go straight into the away end in the Lisbon Lions Stand (south-east corner).
  4. After the match, leave promptly and return to the city centre by train or taxi. Bridgeton station is a less-crowded alternative if Dalmarnock is congested.

Safety-sensitive. Near-ground pubs on the Gallowgate are for home fans; the city centre is the right base for away supporters. Re-check official away guidance per fixture and per season.

Food-first Glasgow matchday

  1. Start at Dishoom (Nelson Mandela Place) for Bombay café food, or explore the Merchant City for a wider choice of independent restaurants.
  2. The Pot Still on Hope Street covers whisky and cask ale for anyone who wants a Glasgow dram before the game.
  3. Take the Argyle Line from Central Low Level to Dalmarnock — 10 minutes.
  4. Use concourse food as a fallback, not the main plan.

Venue hours need a current check before publishing. Do not promise food availability for specific kick-off times.

Football plus a Glasgow night out

  1. Book a city-centre hotel — Kimpton Blythswood Square for a 5-star stay, Apex City of Glasgow or Mercure for mid-range.
  2. After the match, take the train from Dalmarnock back to Central Station (about 10 minutes).
  3. Merchant City (cocktail bars, independent restaurants, late dining) and Finnieston (Argyle Street bars and independent restaurants) are the two main evening areas.
  4. Use taxis or trains rather than walking long distances at night.

Venue hours and current nightlife trading need a current check. Present as an overview, not a step-by-step guarantee.

Stadium tour and Celtic heritage day

  1. Book a Celtic Park stadium tour through the official site at celticfc.com/visit-celtic-park/stadium-tours/.
  2. The Number 7 restaurant offers a combined Tour and Dine package — a three-course meal with a stadium tour.
  3. The tour covers 130+ years of club history including the Jock Stein era, the 1967 European Cup win and the Lisbon Lions.
  4. Take the Argyle Line to Dalmarnock for the tour — same route as matchday.

Tour prices and availability change — check celticfc.com before publishing. The Tour and Dine package needs current availability verification.
