Club facts and honours

Sport Lisboa e Benfica was founded on 28 February 1904. The club holds the Portuguese record for Primeira Liga titles (38 as of the 2022-23 season) and won back-to-back European Cups in 1961 and 1962 — the Eusébio era. Benfica have reached the European Cup final 10 times, more than any club that has not won the competition multiple times. In February 2025 the club announced 400,000 paid members, described by the club as making it the largest sports club in the world by membership. The Guinness World Record for most paid-up members of a football club was set on 9 November 2006 with 160,398 members.
